Information about the location
Yizhou City is a county-level city located in Hechi Prefecture, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, in the southern part of the People’s Republic of China. It has several hundred thousand inhabitants and is the home to a number of ethnic Zhuang villages. Its economy is centered on sugar production. Yizhou is situated on the range of stunning karst formations that covers southern China. Foreign tourists rarely visit the city. However, it has a train station and can be reached by bus from Guilin (4 hours).

Type of school and level of English
Yizhou Senior High School lies in the northern part of Yizhou City. It is one of the first-class schools in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and one of the key high schools in Hechi district. Yizhou Senior High School was founded in September 1981. There are now 36 classes with around 2,400 students (more girls than boys) who are between 15 and 19 years old. Yizhou Senior High School covers an area of 126 mu with faculty of 151.

The school has three buildings with 46 classrooms and 5 multimedia classrooms and one six-story building for physical, chemical and biological experiments. The ground track field is so far the most advanced in Guangxi. The restaurant in the school can serve 800 students simultaneously.

Cost for volunteers
The school abroad provides the accommodation. PIECES covers all daily expenses overseas, that includes food, housing and living costs while you are teaching. The volunteers are only asked to bear the costs of the flight.

Teaching times
Teaching times are to be directly arranged with the school. But usually the volunteers have to hold 4-5 classes per day of 40 minutes each from Monday to Friday and in addition organize evening activities to further improve the children’s English.

Contact person
Mister Yang is the person in charge of the volunteers. He organizes the teaching times and makes sure that the volunteers have everything they need during their stay there.
