- The project takes place in Sao Paulo, Brazil’s largest city with over 12 million inhabitants. The Arco Associação Beneficente is located in the south of Sao Paulo in the Favelas. The city center can be reached by bus taking the bus to the nearest Metro station (about 40min) and then taking the metro.
The Arco Associação Beneficente supports over 600 children. The Organization has a Nursery, a Preschool and a center for children and adolescents. The volunteers should be open to getting involved in the different parts of the organization. You will be helping out in the kindergarten, prepare food in the kitchen, have breakfast and lunch with the children, improve the infrastructure, but also teach English a lot.
Most of the children live in the Favelas and are rather poor. The level of English is very basic. The volunteers should focus on teaching in a playful way, as wished from Arco.
The exact schedule varies and has to be defined with the Associação. Generally they will be teaching from Monday to Friday, but maybe have Mondays off for travelling.
The volunteers will be staying in one of the two volunteers houses that are on the school ground. Both houses have a living room, a washing machine and a kitchen, where the volunteers can cook their dinners together. Breakfast and lunch will be provided by the school.
